Poem - Hong Kong’s Golden Goodbye, Poet - Frieda Norma Dela Cruz

Hong Kong’s Golden Goodbye

 Frieda Norma Dela Cruz

The sun, a slow-sinking coin,

pours its last molten gold on Victoria Harbour.

The Peak’s dark shoulder

becomes a quiet silhouette against a deepening sky.

A Star Ferry cuts the surface,

its wake a temporary silver scar

on the water's sheet of hammered gold.

The city's first evening lights begin to bloom

like a constellation of glass and steel.

I let my worries drift and fade,

I watch them ignite, one by one,

a brilliant promise for tomorrow.

Beneath this vast and watchful sky,

Hong Kong whispers a gentle, golden goodbye.
