Poem - Doll

Tamikio L. Dooley 

USA

I brought home a life-size doll one evening named Molly.

From the antique market,

From the bowls, capturing the antique world,

The doll stood just as tall as me.

With blond hair, distant from my ancestors,

 

And guarded the rails of her plastic beauty,

Nevertheless,

 She wasn’t one of me.

Then I saw her brilliant blue eyes flicker.

Astonished!

 

That a life-size synthetic model,

Without a soul, a heart, a mind,

Could she hear me?

Listen to my thoughts,

Hear my heartbeat,

And feel my pain,

Which I brought her home?

 

In time, I learned the doll,

Could, in fact,

Listen to my thoughts,

Hear my heartbeat,

And feel my pain.

 

I became her.
