Poem - One by One, I Climbed the Stairs… Poetess - Amb.Principessa Sofia (Albania)

One by One, I Climbed the Stairs…
Amb.Principessa Sofia

One by one, I climbed the stairs…
The wait was long.
But I never despaired
when, like others, I was not appreciated.

Beautiful words were thrown at my portrait,
but silence over my verse.
Maybe I didn't know how to shout,
nor how to send poems by SMS.
Like many others
who sought diplomas through "messenger".

And again I was silent.
And again I waited.

I told myself:
"The day will come...
Don't be discouraged because they didn't appreciate you.
Rejoice that they didn't challenge you."

And I waited.
With great hope I waited.
Inside myself, with great strength
and with faith in God,
in the end... I succeeded.

I didn't ask for anything,
except for my verse to be appreciated.
Because poetry for me
was hope, it was salvation.

In verses I poured out pain,
but also joy.
I poured out failure, patience,
infidelity and disappointment.
That's why I was looking for... appreciation.

I waited in silence.
I waited for a very long time.
I endured contempt,
I was silent and did not speak..

While I saw
how.. with two stolen verses
they received diplomas.

I saw pseudo-poets
who made noise and advertising,
and declared themselves "the best",
while the deceased word
was always remaining in the shadows.

But I know one thing:

Poetry is not a body to be exposed,
nor nudity for fame.
Poetry is a wound that speaks.
It is a soul that burns
and still finds the strength to write...

And the greatest prize
is not the diplomas that hang on the white wall..
but the verse that touches the heart.
and in people it remains alive..

I learned that in life, to walk with steps..
And not with a run..
With a mind in my head, and with my feet on the ground,

So I climbed the stairs one by one to be, here I am.
and this is what I am....
