A Moment That Changed My Perspective

Yesterday, I visited GMC Handwara for my doctor's appointment. While waiting for my turn, I witnessed a scene that left me deeply shaken.

Suddenly, a couple came rushing into the emergency department carrying their young son. He had met with a bicycle accident and was unconscious. Doctors and nurses immediately rushed to attend to him, while his parents stood there in tears, overwhelmed with fear and helplessness.

As I looked closely, I realized that the injured child was my own student. That moment made the incident even more painful. Seeing a child whom I had taught lying unconscious was heartbreaking.

His mother recognized me and, through her tears, said, “Sir, he wasn't even supposed to go to school today. I never imagined something like this would happen. What has happened to us?” Her words echoed in my heart. No parent should ever have to experience such pain. The father's silent grief and the mother's desperate cries created an atmosphere that no one present could forget.

The entire hospital fell silent. Everyone prayed that the child would regain consciousness and recover soon. Watching that family suffer reminded me how unpredictable life can be. In just a few moments, an ordinary day had turned into a nightmare.

As I left the hospital, I carried a heavy heart. I silently prayed for my student and hoped that he would recover soon and return to school with the same cheerful smile that brightened our classroom. This painful incident reminded me to value every moment of life, cherish our loved ones, and never take their safety for granted.

May our children always remain safe, and may my student recover quickly and return home and to school soon.
