PPEM - COMPANION I NEVER CHOSE, Dr. Jitender Singh Chandigarh, UT, India

COMPANION I NEVER CHOSE

Dr. Jitender Singh

Chandigarh,  UT, India

Life refuses to let me live,

yet the desire to live remains —

uncertain who might betray me.

Fear had already settled within me,

before I understood its arrival,

afraid I might grow used

to living alongside it.

I never chose fear,

yet with fear

I learned how to go on.

Is this what life is called?

I never realized

when time quietly passed —

fear never let me notice.

Now it no longer matters

whether it stays faithful

or turns into punishment.

—  Dr. Jitender Singh

Author’s Note :

This poem reflects fear not as an enemy,

but as an uninvited companion that silently shapes how one learns to live.

It explores survival, acceptance, and the quiet passage of time.
