Poems of Shah Jehan Ashrafi (Mauritius)

In a cave

We dwell in a cave

We defeat ourselves

And become what

We believe

And so be it!

Hope is an illusion

We are culprits

Carving antransforming

Our Identities,

Mere templates

We think we are rainbows

With thousands of colours

We evaporate like clouds

Each fleeting moment

A proof of inexistence

Lonely tree

The lonely tree

Awaits winter

The season of despair

Spring’s foe

Autumn’s falling leaves

Consume my restlessness

I live in hope

The white cold snow

Will freeze my fears

There will be another

Season of flowers

.

Surrender

I surrender to

Metaphors

Solving puzzles

And dissolving

In them

I dwell on shards

Every moment

An enticing quest

I walk in a maze

Missing conquests

And chasing

Daymares

Fleeting moments

Freeze

Paintings on memories’

Canvas

I become elusive

And melt on the horizon.

Memory’s glitters

Frozen glitters

On silvery memory

An open door

To unimaginable bravery

I move round and round

An unstoppable drill

A life wasted

For a single moment’s thrill

The beloved’s face

Is blurred in time’s mist

The mind, hell-bent

To open the mind’s closed fist

Move on and forget

This is how it works

But some stories forge us

Rolling tears,

Life’s treasured perks

The heart is sacred

So is poetry

The sound of rhymes

A pious sorrow, a whispering chaos

To chase fireflies

I kept running on

Shards

I forget to wear

My golden shoes.

Gloom and Bloom

And autumn came

With its heartfelt

Bloom

For me it was

Never a season

Of gloom

Our pain and stories

We all feel doomed

But let us keep

Them all

In a melting heart,

A solid chest.
