The Promise
William S. Peters, Sr. (USA)

Deep within the annals of my soul
There abides a sacred promise
That one day I shall return
To the womb of life
From which I was spawned.


There we shall rejoice,
My Ancestors and I
As we revisit the footsteps
Of our collective journey
Through the trials and tribulations
That defined the character
Of who we are.


No, we did not acquiesce 
Nor did we bow our heads
And accept the subservience
That others attempted to put upon us.


I, we are noble souls
Souls of the 'One'
Who has nurtured us,
Embraced us in the spirit
And embedded in our souls
The word that lives
Beyond eternity ....

আমার আত্মার কাহিনীর গভীরে
একটি পবিত্র প্রতিশ্রুতি রয়ে গেছে
যে একদিন আমি ফিরে আসব
জীবনের গর্ভে
যেখান থেকে আমাকে জন্ম দেওয়া হয়েছিল।

সেখানে আমরা আনন্দ করব,
আমার পূর্বপুরুষরা এবং আমি
যখন আমরা আবার পদাঙ্ক অনুসরণ করব
আমাদের সম্মিলিত যাত্রার
পরীক্ষা এবং দুর্দশার মধ্য দিয়ে
যা চরিত্রকে সংজ্ঞায়িত করেছিল
আমরা কে।

না, আমরা সম্মত হইনি
আমরা মাথা নত করিনি
এবং সেই বশ্যতা গ্রহণ করিনি
যা অন্যরা আমাদের উপর চাপিয়ে দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করেছিল।

আমি, আমরা মহৎ আত্মা
'একজন'-এর আত্মা
যিনি আমাদের লালন-পালন করেছেন,
আত্মায় আলিঙ্গন করেছেন
এবং আমাদের আত্মায় গেঁথেছেন
শব্দ যা জীবিত
অনন্তকালের বাইরে....
