THE GOSSIPING SHIP
How do you map black deaths?
Because the day your gossiping ship
Landed in our backyard
You looked like a long-lost friend
Until you displayed the gossip
Hidden in your wooden ship
One gossiping ship brought a dozen
How do you make black deaths?
Because til this day, you kill my people
With your petty, poisonous politics and
venomous democracy
You have cracked the entire world
Patching it for the past 400 years
The warriors are ready to tear it down
We have decided to rebuild the temple
This time with your blood
Your gossiping ships left a trail of blood
Wounds, and heaps of bones
Aren’t you satisfied?
How do you map black Deaths?
Is it like your farm animals?
You have chewed more than you can swallow
Soon, you’ll choke and die

A Dog In Love
Every evening
When the sun is residing
He sits at the roadside
Waiting for someone’s special
From afar, he smells him
And his tail starts dancing
like a happy fish
He misses him
They are like brothers
Compelled by true love
His voice is like music to him
The sound of his car
He has ingrained in
His inner ear
The leaves are dancing
Underneath his feet
His heart pumps faster
He knows in few minutes
His guardian will be here
Star-crossed hearts
Love and peace sing
A show of endless love
He left and meet him
At the same place
Waiting for him
He is a dog but
He is his companion

THE SOURSOP TREE IN OUR COMPOUND
She stood there
When I came into the world
Grounded beside the flowers
Like the old, rugged crucifixion cross
In Wilberforce, Freetown.
She has lived so long
That she notices every new face
I grew up loving her
As I used to climb her for her babies
Beside the fence flowers
She stood gazing at all of us.
People came and left
Families lived and died
The children and grandchildren
Played under her shade; other times
Brought sticks to catch her babies.
Outgrew so many life puzzles
The only tree left in our compound
Along the banana tree by the tap
We have all posed before her
Even the dogs and cats found solace
Beneath her branches; a gentlewoman.
Our compound will never be the same
The day she will be no more
Our lives will change, the neighbour
Will be sad, and strangers will never
Know about her. Until that day,
We keep her close to her heart
Even after she is gone.

TIME WAVES
Samuel Julius Habakkuk Kargbo (Sierra Leone)
Time is the greatest teacher
In the heart of time, beneath the sky
The whispering stars carrying dreams
Like parents nurturing their children
Across the world, of unwrapping pursuits
The rivers flow with myths unspoken
Of ancient promenades and great falls
Each drop of rain, a bad or good memory
In silent junctures, we reminisce.
The hands of time may twist and turn
But hope is fired every passing moment
Night may tarry but it stays not forever
Every sunrise paints the skies
What are your thoughts?
Bury those mistakes, time is cruel
Whether you are alive, or on a sickbed
A chance to rise, realize it
The cliffs have stood for centuries
They have witnessed life, death, love,
hate, and the rise and fall of civilizations
Fragile moments make us strong
Time is the greatest teacher
Yet, our firecrest enemy after all
Whether we choose to walk alone or not
Dance with life with an
open heart
Every end is an opportunity for a brand-new
Start of promises and tales untold
