Poem - The Innocence of Hardship, Poet - Omatee Ann Marie Hansraj (Trinidad and Tobago)

The Innocence of Hardship

Omatee Ann Marie Hansraj

Her town dress, worn and torn,

Cracked lips speak more than one can say.

Shoes not just old, but ill-fit too,

Bearing marks of paths they knew.

Not her size, a stranger’s claim,

Clothes like rags, untidy and dirty to.

Yet through the disarray, a silent plea,

The innocence remains for all to see.

Life's cruelty etched on her face,

A brutal journey, devoid of grace.

Yet within her, a spark holds tight,

A testament to her enduring light.
