The Mourning After

As destiny would have it
There was an end to the laughter
There was loss in the air
And the mourning after.

The idyllic scene was gone
There was an end to the wonder
We never could fathom
The spell we were under.

With tragedy unfolding
There was no sense to the crafter
We wrestled with the dread
Of the mourning after.

Those Things For Which I Long

I long for reason, minds that merge -
a peaceful ending had -
a tempered tide, a softer surge,
a pact that's ironclad.

I long for judgements unimpaired -
seen dialogue as key -
a world of wonders being shared,
the way it's meant to be.

I long for logic's rule supreme -
all shadows set aside -
allowed each one to live a dream
with never one denied.

Each Reaching For A Rose

It's peace we're after, tried and true,
if this a mountain's climb -
the sound of laughter, tripped into
unhurried, one more time.

The steps upon the promenade
that echo through the night -
maintained a beat for music played
that's fashioned in the light.

The Promised Land (within our reach)
that keeps us on our toes -
each one in step, a place for each,
each reaching for a rose.
