Poems of Fadwa Attia, Egypt
I still Adore You
Fadwa Attia, Egypt
I still adore you.
Between my love and yours lie days and years.
I wandered through your nights
and was lost within your days.
I became lost in my own world.
I drifted away from you, and you drifted away from me,
but fate chose to keep us apart.
Yet our hearts are like butterflies,
lost in their own pain.
Between my love and yours are days and years.
Come back to me—
you are still my beloved.
I, Like a Girl,
Fadwa Attia, Egypt
I, like a girl, dream—like a butterfly—of beautiful days and sweet moments.
But always I live between my work and my studying; my days go astray and my memories fade,
and inside me remains the little girl who loves chocolate and flowers.
Will my days ever return to how they were when I was a child?
I used to dream of being grown-up. We grew older with the days, and I still haven't achieved what I want.
Ah—my days. With each passing day I feel bewildered.
O Lord, you are the one who can make them the most beautiful days and the sweetest dreams.
Grant me what I desire—like a butterfly flying through the fields searching for her dream...
I loved You with a Love that Never Ends—
Fadwa Attia, Egypt
I loved you with a love that never ends
a great, sincere love,
and with every passing day, my heart grew fuller with you.
My beloved,
although you departed from my world,
you remained alive in my memory;
the memory of your love never leaves me.
Return to me
with your love, your heart, your days,
so we may become like two birds
flying together in the dreams of tomorrow.
My love—and yours—
know no end.
Remember me as days pass,
and do not forget that my love
still belongs to you.
As if we are still together,
my beloved—
forever.
