Autumn’s portrait

Shah Jehan Ashrafi

Once I had a portrait, looking as happy as

The season of spring, I was all colourful flowers

Blooming all the while.

Then came autumn and life’s tree began to die.

The leaves changed their colour, they were somehow brighter, but about to fall.

Fallen leaves banished from their homes , kissing the ground. Defeated, they asked for wings from the birds migrating to foreign lands…

But wings cannot be borrowed, they needed to grow their own feathers…

our tales need to fail, fall, decay and die.

New tales emerge and without autumn, there’s no renewal, no hope to be reborn…
