Poem -The Tug of Heart and Mind, Poetess - Dr. Okram Shakuntala (India)

The Tug of Heart and Mind

Dr. Okram Shakuntala

Manipur, Imphal

Sometimes, the mind holds truths so clear,

Yet the heart finds them hard to bear.

Logic and reason draw their lines,

But emotion often defies the signs.

The mind may whisper what’s just and right,

While the heart clings to shadows of light.

Though facts may present a certain way,

The heart’s desires often stray.

A conflict brews where wisdom speaks,

Yet passion’s plea grows loud and weak.

The mind lays out a path of grace,

But the heart dreams of a different place.

When clarity brings a bitter truth,

The heart might seek a gentler proof.

In the realm of what we wish and know,

A tug of war between head and heart does grow.

For the mind may chart a course so true,

But the heart yearns for what it can’t undo.

Sometimes, the answer is clear but cold,

While the heart prefers what’s warm and bold.
