A racist’s song- Being blind to the other’s lighthouse

Shah Jehan Ashrafi (Canada)

The other is a strange shadow residing

In incomprehensible cultures, rules, traditions

And religions.

I wish to inhabit my safe space.

I don’t want to wonder in the other’s mind or emotions.

The other’s philosophy is not my cup of tea.

Empathy is demanding, it will drain me.

I can’t let go of my ego’s tentacles and I feed my prejudices.

I’m a perfect eccentric who lives

in a self-centred island.

I live in a boat and I’m blind to the other’s lighthouse.

I own my sea and I’m not part of the vast ocean.
