Poem - The Weight of Legacy, Poetess - Dr. Omatee Ann Marie Hansraj (Trinidad and Tobago)
The Weight of Legacy
When born, we arrive pure and bright,
Unknowing of the burdens in sight.
Generations past weigh heavy on our frame,
Deeds of ancestors, a legacy to reclaim.
Judged by those unseen, yet felt so real,
Their actions shape our story, for good or reveal.
Expectations loom, traditions to uphold,
A past not our own, yet forever to be told.
We carry their ghosts, their triumphs and their shame,
Their dreams and regrets, an inherited claim.
The weight of legacy, a burden to bear,
A life lived under the gaze of those who came before, yet are still there.
Quote:
We bear the weight of generations, not just our own; the past whispers our name, and the future waits to be defined.
